Richard Downey - Garston & Halewood

The Candidate for Garston and Halewood, Richard Downey, was brought up in Cressington and was the Conservative Candidate for Woolton Ward at the Local Elections in 2008. At those elections he increased the Conservative vote in Woolton by 69% and slashed the Lib Dems majority in the Ward to around 500.

About Richard
Richard was born in May 1983 in Liverpool and has lived there for most of his life. Whilst at School in South Liverpool Richard worked for the family business where he met people from all walks of life and gained a sound understanding of the issues associated with running a small business.
After graduating in Business & Finance from Durham University he joined the finance division of a luxury retailer in Liverpool where he developed his business management skills. He recently joined an organisation based in Liverpool which is rapidly expanding into the retail sector creating local jobs. 
He loves Liverpool and is proud of its people, architecture, and diversity.
Richard's Experience
Richard is a keen supporter of Conservative Party policies and has been since he was16 when he became a member of Conservative Future. Richard has played a prominent part in campaigning in local and national elections and was selected as the Conservative Candidate for Woolton Ward at the local elections in May 2008. At those elections Richard increased the Conservative vote in Woolton by an astonishing 69% and smashed the Liberal Democrats majority in the ward to a mere 500.
In 2006 Richard was a founding member of the City of Liverpool Conservatives, which promotes the parties policies, encourages cultural diversity, and campaigns on local issues which directly affects the quality of life for the people of Liverpool. Richard was instrumental in the creation of the 2007 City wide local election campaign that fielded a full slate of candidates across all social backgrounds for the first time since 1992.
In January 2010, Richard was selected to represent Garston & Halewood, where he grew up, as the Parliamentary Candidate at the next general election.
Campaigning in Garston & Halewood
Richard is committed to working hard on behalf of the people of Garston & Halewood, helping to improve the quality of life for people that he has grown up with.
Richard believes in reducing crime & antisocial behaviour which is also a Conservative priority and has a clear understanding of how to reduce the levels of violent crime by increasing police presence on the streets of Liverpool and he has been working with the Shadow Minister for Liverpool, Chris Grayling, to crystallise these ideas.
Richard is committed to a comprehensive standard of education for children from all walks of life and believes that the current level of literacy is unacceptable considering the national expenditure on education under the current Government.
He is currently campaigning against the closure of geriatric beds at Liverpool's Royal Hospital and he is committed to improving the health care of people in Liverpool.
Richard strongly believes that he has the necessary experience to make a significant impact and contribution to the people of Garston & Halewood.
