Born in 1962, Chris grew up in Buckinghamshire, though his family moved to the North West when he was 19. He was educated at the Royal Grammar School, High Wycombe before going to Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, to read history. After university, he joined the BBC's News Training Scheme, and worked as a producer on BBC News and Channel Four's programme Business Daily.
After a few years in television production, he decided to move to the business side of the media industry, and worked for a number of small and medium-sized production businesses before moving to the Employee Change Communication practice at international communications firm Burson Marsteller. He ended his time there as European Marketing Director.
Chris lives in Ashtead, Surrey, in his constituency of Epsom and Ewell. He has written several books, including a history of the Bridgwater Canal, Anglo-American relations, and life in England after the First World War.
Before entering Parliament in 2001, he was a councillor on the London Borough of Merton.


On June 4th 2009, Jacqueline was elected as one of three Conservative MEPs for the North West of England. Jacqueline was recently appointed the Conservative Party's Spokesman on the Transport & Tourism Committee and a Member of the Industry Committee, positions she also held between 1999 and 2004.
Prior to her being elected to the European Parliament in 1999, Jacqueline worked in the Airline Industry for British Airways for more than 20 years.
For 10 years, Jacqueline was also Deputy General Secretary of the Independent Airline Trades Union, Cabin Crew '89, where she specialised in UK employment law and negotiated employment contracts and industrial agreements. She also spent four years working in Austria for a UK travel company as an area manager, responsible for its Austrian operation.

Since his election to the European Parliament in 2004 and his re-election in June 2009, Saj has established an enviable reputation on the European stage through his tireless work in parliamentary committees and on behalf of his North West constituency, based on his firmly held principles, beliefs and strong instincts of equality and diversity.
Saj represents more than 7 million residents of the North West of England - covering Cumbria, Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Lancashire - Saj is a member of the Industry, Research and Energy Committee and a substitute member of the Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs Committee in the European Parliament. Sajjad is therefore able to address the key challenges of the 21st Century for Europe.
His youthful energy, enthusiasm, commitment and vision are matched by a sharp grasp of the international issues facing the world today. He was named as "a high flyer of British politics" by The Times in its Who's Who of 2005.

Sir Robert was first elected MEP for the North West region in 1999. He is Deputy Leader of the Conservatives in the European Parliament and Conservative Spokesman on Petitions in the European Parliament. He was Conservative Spokesman on Industry and External Trade from 2001-2004, and was Spokesman on Regional Policy, Transport and Tourism from 1999-2001. He is a member of the Transport & Tourism Committee and a substitute member of the Environment, Publich health & Food Safety Committee.
Sir Robert was MP for Preston North and South Ribble from 1979-97 and during that time served as DTI Minister (1987-89), Minister of Transport (1989-90), Minister of Sport (1990-92), Minister of State, Northern Ireland (1992-94) and Minister of State for Environment and Countryside (1994-95). He became a Privy-Counsellor in 1995. and was knighted in 1997.
Born in 1946, Robert is married with two children. He is a member of English Heritage, National Trust, Victorian Society, Sherlock Holmes Society, MCC, Lancashire CCC, Middlesex CCC, Lord's Taverners, and the Carlton Club. His interests include cricket.
