It's Snow Joke - Council Fails in Winter Chaos

Liberal Democrat controlled Liverpool City Council was hopelessly caught out by the recent winter weather.

Many residents across the city were outraged as they were stranded in their homes due to the complete failure of the council to adequately grit the roads.
Both Woolton & Gateacre villages for example were reduced to dangerous ice rinks and many elderly residents, in particular, struggled with frozen pavements. Cars and buses were left stranded and abandoned in the streets which led to more danger for the few people who braved the conditions.
The Liverpool Conservative office received calls from residents who were struggling about their day to day business because of the lack of preparation.
Richard Downey, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Garston and Halewood said, “At first the villages of Woolton & Gateacre looked beautiful under the covering of fresh snow. However the sheer lack of preparation became abundantly clear when residents tried to leave for work or visit their local shops.”
“None of the main roads or pavements in the area had seen a gritter, leaving roads that were treacherous until a thaw developed naturally. At on point my regular journey home from work took over five hours.”
The economic cost of this failure to grit Liverpool adequately will be enormous. No Doubt we will read in the newspapers a litany of excuses whilst one thing is plain and clear – the Liberal Democrats have let us down. This is further proof that the city of Liverpool desperately needs the change that only the Conservatives can bring.
