David Cameron today confirmed that one of his new flagship enterprise zones will straddle the Mersey.
It will cover the major regeneration projects Liverpool Waters and Wirral Waters, as the Daily Post reported this morning.
Incoming firms and developers will receive tax breaks, fast-track planning and a 100 per cent business discount worth up to £270,000 over five years.
The sites were chosen because, the government hope, run-down dockland areas are ripe for "imaginative" regeneration.
A Downing Street spokesman said: "Designation as a zone will help accelerate delivery of these developments, make a great contribution to the Liverpool superport and help attract much-needed investment and jobs."
Communities Secretary Eric Pickles said: "Local enterprise partnerships can use these zones as a springboard for private sector growth and wider regeneration."
