City of Liverpool Conservatives were proud to see and be part of the events, locally and across the United Kingdom, celebrating the coronation of King Charles III.
We were especially proud to see our own Penny Mordaunt MP, in her role as Lord President of the Privy Council, bearing the sword of the state and additionally presenting the jewelled sword of offering to King Charles III. They were two of four swords used during the ceremony, in a practice that originated during the coronation of Richard the Lionheart in 1189 AD.
It’s been over 70 years since the country saw a Coronation and the UK proved why we are the envy of the world in a mixture of wonderful events and pageantry.
