City of Liverpool Conservatives have selected Katie Burgess as their Candidate for the Fazakerley East By-election, due to take place on 14th September 2023.
Katie previously stood for the party in the Liverpool City Mayoral Elections in 2021 and on a number of occasions for local council. Born in the city centre and raised in Waterloo, Katie has built her business interests in Liverpool, working across the Merseyside region, and has invested in the communities of the city that she is proud to call her home and yearns to see flourish.
Katie said “I am proud to say that I was born under a Tory government, spent the first ten years of my life represented by a Tory MP and was raised with big and small “C” conservative values. Like me, this city was built on those values too and I’ve watched with horror to see the decimation under Liverpool Labour rule. Following the long-awaited exposure of the corruption at the City Council in the Caller Report (2021) and the continued failures of current councillors - most recently when an improvement notice was served by Ofsted to the City Council’s Children’s Department - it’s clear that the voters need to elect councillors who can and will work for the city and its people. It will take a long time to rebuild the city from its current state and that needs the right people. Every vote - and every voter - counts. We need to move on from the past: the future starts here.”
Katie has a strong political background and holds several roles in the party. She is a seasoned campaigner and fundraiser and a member of the CCF. Katie is also a keen hobby photographer, a published artist, and as a former Executive Head Chef she previously wrote the food columns for three publications. She is also a a theatre lover with eclectic musical tastes, though she says “for all the things I love, it’s my people who are my raison d’etre.”
The by-election comes as Cllr Frazer Lake, the council's current cabinet member for the key areas of adult social care and health, announced he was standing down to take a union job, despite having just been re-elected to the council in May this year.
Liverpool deserves better.
